August letter from Rev. Gary

Dear Friends,

“The heavens declare the glory of God.” Psalm 19 v1. For some people August brings a welcome change of pace. Schools are on holiday, many people are enjoying time away or tending their gardens. We’ve certainly been blessed with some glorious sunshine the past few months.

Whilst we’ve all appreciated the warm weather, I’m sure many of us are looking at our very dry gardens and wondering if a little gentle night time rain might now be an answer to prayer!

This Yorkshire Day month also gives us the opportunity to witness something rather special. On 12th August, many of us in the UK will be able to see a solar eclipse. It is one of those rare moments that encourages us to stop, look upwards, and marvel at God’s wonderful creation. As the Psalmist reminds us, “The heavens declare the glory of God.”

Summer invites us to slow down and notice God’s presence in the ordinary. Whether, in the beauty of a warm evening, the laughter of children at play, the kindness of a neighbour, or a quiet moment of peace in our historic and cool church. These simple blessings remind us that God’s love is with us every day.

For some, however, this season can be difficult. If holidays are not possible, or the summer feels lonely, please know that you are remembered in our prayers. Our church family is always here to offer friendship and support.

As we enjoy the last weeks of summer and look towards autumn, may we remember that God’s love never takes a holiday. May this August bring you peace, refreshment, and joy and hopefully, for the sake of our gardens, just enough rain!
